Healthcare service in Rangárþing eystra
The health center in Rangárþing Eystra is situated at Öldubakki 4, Hvolsvelli.
Opening hours are every weekday from 8:00 to 15:00.

The Healthcare Institution of South Iceland (HSU) provides healthcare services, hospital services and elderly care in the form of nursing and residential facilities. The service area extends from Þorlákshöfn in the west to Höfn in the east.

The Healthcare System
Iceland has a universal healthcare system where everyone is entitled to emergency assistance. Legal residents are covered by Icelandic Health Insurance (IHI). The national emergency number is 112. You can contact the online chat for emergencies via 112.is and emergency services are available 24 hours a day, all year round.
Healt insurance coverage
Everyone who has legal residency in Iceland for six consecutive months is covered by the Icelandic health insurance. Icelandic Health Insurance determines whether citizens of EEA and EFTA countries are eligible to transfer their health insurance rights to Iceland.
Healthcare co-payment system
The Icelandic healthcare system uses a co-payment system which reduces the expenses for people who frequently need to access healthcare.
The maximum payment from 1 January 2023 is ISK 31.150 However, costs are lower for the elderly, the disabled and children or ISK 20.767. No fee is for any service for children under the age of 2 years. Payments for services provided at healthcare centres and hospitals are covered by the system, as well as health services for self-employed doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and psychologists. Children under the age of 18 receive the service free of charge if they have a referral. Otherwise, 30% of the price list is paid, which counts into the co-payment system. Further details about referrals.

Heilsuvera
The state runs a website called Heilsuvera, where you will find educational materials about diseases, prevention and preventive ways to a healthier and better life.
On the website, you can log in to “Mínar síður” (My pages) where you can book appointments, renew medications, communicate securely with healthcare professionals and more. You need to log in using electronic ID (Rafræn skilríki).
The website is still only in Icelandic but it´s easy to find information about what phone number to call for assistance (Símnaráðgjöf Heilsuveru) and how to open up the online chat (Netspjall Heilsuveru). Both services are open most of the day, all days of the week.
Iceland Health participates in the payment of dentistry for children up to the age of 18 and pensioners.

Others pay for dental costs themselves in accordance with the price list of their dentist.
Registration with a general dentist is a condition for participation in payments. Individuals who went to the dentist after January 2017 are already registered with the dentist in question.
You can register with a family dentist in Réttindagátt or with a dentist.
The annual entry fee is 2,500 ISK.
General dental restorations
Iceland Health pay all costs up to the age of 18 for both general dental repair and anesthesia.
Facilities charged for dental repairs under general anesthesia are excluded.
General dentistry includes, inter alia, examination, diagnosis, X-rays, regular check-ups, dental repairs, root canals, periodontal tretment, tooth extractions and removable dentures in accordance with Article 4(2) of Regulation (EC) No 451/2013.
Birth defects, accidents and diseases
The necessary treatment for the consequences of congenital defects, accidents and illnesses which are not professionally appropriate until the age of 17 shall be paid by Iceland Health in accordance with the price list for dental treatment of children.
A dentist shall send an application electronically to Iceland Health and a decision must be made before treatment, other than emergency treatment, begins.
Payment contributions for domestic travel coasts
Applications may be made for reimbursement for travel costs for health services in Iceland. Travelling to the doctor's office is always a condition for obtaining the necessary health services that are involved in the payment of the Icelandic Health Insurance. The application process and payment participation shall be subject to the travel costs involved:
Long trips following the necessary health services that are not available in the local area
Repeated short trips due to serious illnesses
Emergency incident, travel outside of the local home area on the doctor's advice
Hemodialysis treatment, repeated trips to and from the treatment
Residence og travel expenses for parents to visit sick child in hospital
Education trips or meetings, trips of family members of a patient with disabilities or a serious illness
Trips home over the weekend from necessary treatment of at least 26 days
Trips due pension applications at the Social Insurance Administration
Applications may be made for reimbursement for travel expenses of an escort for those who are unable to travel without assistance and with those who travel to give birth. Accompanying a child up to the age of 18 years shall always be paid.
